Eyah I kinda feel for them. The bush meat sellers in calabar's popular bush meat area, Atimbo road, are begging their customers to return after they were chased away when Ebola entered Nigeria.
It is reported that about 21 shops use to be in the area, but now only 14 is managing to survive, as people have refused to return to eating bush meat after the country has been certified Ebola free.
A spokes person for the joints, Mrs Florence Patrick. Says
“Ebola has made our business to fall. No plenty customers again. Those we bought bush meat from are on our neck for their money. Let the government come and make the place attractive like the suya arcade. Our shops are flooded with water and it is a serious problem. ” She said.
She say due to this, many families that depend on the joints as a means of livelihood are now left begging for food.
She also said the the joints need government intervention like they did the popular suya joints in bogobiri, by relocating and beautifying the place.
