MISCHA BARTON is suing her mother, Nuala Barton, for an undisclosed sum that she alleges she stole from her. Barton's mother, who has acted as her manager since her days as a child star but no longer represents her, bought a house with the proceeds of her career - the actress asserts - and then banned her from entering the property.
"While Barton was busy perfecting her craft and turning her acting dreams into reality, her mother, defendant Nuala Barton, was secretly scheming to exploit Barton's bourgeoning career for her benefit," the lawsuit states,Page Six reports.
The lawsuit alleges that Nuala Barton "bullied" her daughter and agreed deals for the former Voguecover girl to lend her name and likeness to promote beauty products and accessories collections - and also a London boutique - without adequate compensation. The suit also accuses Barton's mother of withholding royalties and having lied about the amount she was paid for a 2013 film in order to keep the difference - in addition to her 10 per cent management fee.
"Nuala did not compensate Barton for the use of her name, image and likeness, nor did she share in any of the profits from these ventures with Barton," the lawsuit states. "This is all despite the fact that the businesses were built solely on Barton's fame and popularity."
Barton - who had small parts in films including The Sixth Sense andNotting Hill as a child - has had a troubled recent past since leavingThe OC, in which she began starring when she was just 17. She pled guilty to driving under the influence and without a valid licence in 2007, and was hospitalised in 2009, although the reason was never revealed.
